Known for her amazing work in a variety of roles, Renee Zellweger is a favorite because of her excellent work as the well-loved “Bridget Jones” in the 2001 British film “Bridget Jones Diary,” and her continued role later as “Bridget Jones Edge of Reason.” The dedicated actress gained more than 20 pounds in order to fit the bill for the part. But she shows dedication for more than just her acting career.
When one of Renee’s best friends was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2000, Renee learned about the importance of Breast Cancer Research firsthand. Her friend, “received some of the most progressive treatments available today. I know firsthand the importance of supporting their commitment.”
As a result, Renee is another supporter of the Pink October’s Breast Cancer Research. As an Entertainment Industry Foundations’ (EIF) Ambassador to Saks Fifth Avenue, Renee is participating in the “Key to the Cure” event. In the eight years since the beginning of the event, Saks and its partners has raised $23 million. This money goes to more than 50 different programs, all of which are dedicated towards discovering new treatment methods, and hopefully, one day, a cure for breast cancer.
Mercedes-Benz USA is combining efforts with Saks Fifth Avenue for the “Key to the Cure” event for the last five years, and 2007 is no different. Mercedes-Benz is raising money for breast cancer research through the sales of the 2008 special edition C350 Sport Sedan. The well-equipped Sedan is well-equipped and fun to drive. Mercedes plans to raise $1 million with the sale of 1,000 of these special edition vehicles over the course of the year.
Saks Fifth Avenue shopping weekend is October 18 through 21, and a percentage of the money raised will go towards the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Saks has 54 stores nationwide, and 2 stores in the Middle East in addition to their online store.
Renee will be appearing in a national public service announcement sporting a Saks Fifth Avenue Juicy Couture Limited Edition t-shirt. She said, “I want to help the Entertainment Industry Foundation and its Women’s Cancer Research Fund bring attention to the issue of the women’s cancer and the need to develop new ways to detect it and early treatment. With great support from Saks Fifth Avenue, EIF is funding some of the most exciting and ambitious projects around better treatments and tests for breast cancer.”
