As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s only fitting that people, especially women, everywhere are joining in the fight to raise breast cancer awareness. Mandy Moore is doing her part by hosting the fourth annual celebration to raise money for Breast Cancer research.
“Design a Cure,” had the fashion, entertainment and and music industries team up together to raise money to research a cure. Influential designers gathered together to create Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts featuring various celebrities, like Sheryl Crow for Rock and Republic, Rachel Leigh Cook for Taverniti So, Christina Aguilera for Sharon Segal, Demi Moore for Scanty, and Mandy Moore for Mblem, among others. In total, there are twenty-three different designs. Each of the shirts will be signed by a member of the band which they represent, and all of the money will go towards the Women’s Cancer Research Institute.
Additionally, Clothing companies and other supporters of Breast Cancer Research are getting consumers to “think pink,” as the pink ribbon represents Breast Cancer Survivors. All kinds of objects are being sold in pink in honor of Breast Cancer awareness. In addition to the “Design A Cure” shirts, Mandy Moore and Sheryl Crow are both donning black “Save the Ta Tas” t-shirts, which are adorned by a simple pink ribbon. The message is clear, and it’s important as Breast Cancer affects more than 20,000 women a year. These t-shirts are being sold at www.savethetatas.com, for only $24.95. All the proceeds from the clothing is going towards Breast Cancer Research.
Celebrities from the entertainment industry who attended the event include Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Doug Robb (Hoobastank), Cynthia Bassinet (Last Dance), and Meredith Monroe.
Dr. Beth Karlan thanked those who came and told them about Women’s Cancer Research Institute’s Goal, “Our mission is to end cancer of the breast for women… We make discoveries, you need to help us spread the word and tell people not to be scared.”
Early detection is especially important in combating Breast Cancer, and with a working vaccine for Cervical Cancer, we can only hope that a cure for other cancers, including Breast Cancer, is on the way.
