Mandy Moore and Jim Carrey are not the only celebrities trying to do some good. Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred in several major motion pictures (don’t tell me you forgot that sexy scene in True Lies!) as well as TV and Author of a best selling children’s series of books, has always been a big fan of charity work and volunteering in the community.
Recently, Jamie took her work a step further and became part of the Hometown Heroes Celebrity Portrait Campaign, which highlights celebrities who volunteer with the Red Cross and spend time with regular folks, like us. This is no surprise, because Jamie is also a very involved AIDS activist, along with several deep connections to many major Children’s Hospitals and she serves on several major charity advisory boards. All of this, while at the same time raising a 17 year-old daughter named Annie, and an 8 year old boy, Thomas. I bet husband and famous Actor/Director Christopher Guest is proud of his wife; I know I would be.
The Red Cross started the Hometown Heroes Campaign to highlight the joys of volunteering with the Red Cross, and by using celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis; they are really showing how diverse the Red Cross volunteer corps are. Jamie Lee is one of many major celebrities involved in this campaign, and hopefully one of many more to come.
For the Hometown Heroes campaign, Jamie teamed up with fundraiser and action ready gal, Carmela Burke. Carmela has been volunteering for the Red Cross since 1992, and actually has a lot in common with Jamie. Both of these fantastic women have made a great name for themselves through their volunteer work with the Red Cross.
The Red Cross is a great charity, if not one of the finest in the entire world. They serve a direct need in any community that needs it, usually after a disaster, and never will you see a Red Cross volunteer turn the other way. You can be like Jamie Lee Curtis and volunteer your time, a special skill, or even money to this fantastic life saving and life changing charity.
