Very Common Workout Mistakes to Avoid

    common workout mistakes to avoid

You want to look your best, so you’ve decided that it is time to start making regular workouts a part of your routine. You have been going to the gym or working out regularly at home for a few weeks now, yet you aren’t seeing any results. What gives?

Making the time to work out is just one part of achieving your weight loss/toning goals. If you want to really have success, you have to make the most out of the time you work out. Here is a look at some of the most common workout mistakes and how you can fix them.

    Setting High Expectations

Sure, your ultimate goal may be to lose 50 pounds, but you aren’t going to see those type of results in just a few weeks. Instead of getting frustrated and thinking that you’re failing when you don’t see a dramatic weight loss each time you step on the scale, adjust your expectations. Dropping a pound a week is pretty impressive, so if you lose that or more each week, you should give yourself a pat on the back.

    Constantly Weighing In

While we’re on the topic of weighing in, constantly doing so is another common workout problem. Stop stepping on the scale every day! You are more than likely not going to see any results by doing this, and you’re just going to end up getting discouraged. Even weighing yourself once a week is too much. Instead, try once every two weeks. It takes a while to see smaller numbers on the scale and constantly weighing yourself will only lead to frustration.

    Not Warming Up

While it may seem like a waste of time to you, the truth is that stretching is an absolute must if you want to have a successful workout. It helps to stretch out and warm up those muscles and avoid some serious pain. Not only should you warm up before a workout, but you should also warm “down” after one. Doing some stretches after your workout will help you avoid sore muscles, as well.

    Not Watching Your Diet

Many people think that because they are working out they can continue eating what they want. This thought process is counteractive, as you are only working off the extra calories that you are consuming and not the ones that you are already carrying around. In order to successfully lose weight, you have to work out AND watch what you eat.

These common mistakes can really have a big impact on the success of your workout. However, fixing them is easy and once you do so, you’ll start to see the results you desire.
